    • Newspaper Obituary - Tuesday, July 26, 1898 Detroit Free Press - Detroit, Michigan - Death of Probably The Oldest Man In Michigan - Howell, Mich., July 23, - Phineas Stewart, the oldest inhabitant of this county and probably the oldest in southern Michigan, died at his farm in this township yesterday, aged 104 years, 9 months and 16 days. He was born in New York and came to Michigan and settled here forty-two years ago. He has had five wives and they are all buried side by side in one lot. Has had seven children, only one of whom is living. The old man has been smart, looking after his farm work until quite recently. Has always been a Democrat and was heard to remark at the last presidential election "If the Democrats don't win this time I will live to help them out again."
