- Lester L. Poole, age 86, life resident of Pulaski and Sandy Creek passed away Wednesday at his home. Lester was born May 8, 1927 in Sandy Creek, born to Rennie and Mabel Poole. He attended Sandy Creek School having received an honorary High School Diploma from S.C.C.S. in recognition of his enlistment into the Military during WWII. He served in the United States Navy from 1945 until 1947. Lester married Dorothy Gregory on May 14, 1948. He was employed by Sandy Creek Schools for 32 years, retiring in 1989. He was selected for the Wall of Excellence in 2011 at Sandy Creek School. He was previously employed by Blount's Lumber and Douglaston Manor. Lester was a member of the United Wesleyan Church in Sandy Creek.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy F., two sons, Paul (Jean) Poole of Pulaski and Frederick A. (Marilyn) Poole of Lacona; one daughter, Darlene (William) Bates of Pulaski; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and an extended family consisting of several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, January 5 at 1 p.m. at the United Wesleyan Church in Sandy Creek with a spring burial in Richland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Wesleyan Church, Main Street, Sandy Creek or the Sandy Creek/Lacona Community Cupboard, Lacona, NY 13083.
