Newspaper Obituary - Tuesday, February 17, 1931 Oswego Palladium Times - Oswego, New York - Pulaski, February 17 - Walter Nicholson, 54, a rural mail carrier for 27 years, died at his home in Lake street, Monday evening. Although he had been in poor health for the past two years he had been confined to his bed for only three days directly preceding his death. Mr. Nicholson was born August 7, 1877, near Fernwood, son of Lorenzo and Esther Nicholson, and spent his entire life in Fernwood until two years ago when he came to this village to reside. He resigned as a mail carrier last fall after having been engaged in that work in Fernwood 17 years and on R.D. 5 out of this village for the ten following years. Before becoming a mail carrier he had assisted his father on the farm in Fernwood. Mr. Nicholson attended Pulaski academy. He was a member of South Richland Grange and an attendant of the Methodist church of this village. He is survived by his widow, Lena Pierce Nicholson, and one daughter, Miss Thelma Nicholson; one brother, Will Nicholson of Fernwood, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at his home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. John Warren, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be in Willis cemetery.
