- Obituary of Lois D. Gates
Lois D. Gates, 90, of Azalea Health and Rehab, died Friday, January 3rd at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington. Mrs. Gates was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was born June 30, 1929 in Brockport, NY. She was the daughter of Grant Ellis and Mary (Fox) Delong. She graduated from Pulaksi Academy High School. She married Richard M. Gates on September 2, 1949 at Pulaski Congregational Church.
Surviving are 4 sons, Richard (Joanie), Pickerington, Ohio, Jamie (Gloria) Wilmington, NC, Robert (Sandy), Bath, PA, and Timothy, Hampstead, NC; two daughters, Ann Gates, Oswego, NY, and Mary Jane Montgomery, Apex, NC; and a sister, Diane Clark (Creighton) of New Hampshire. Predeceased by brother William Delong and sister Linda (Delong) Joyal. There are 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. The family would like to offer a special note of thanks to the staff at Azalea Health and Rehabilitation, the exceptional care and compassion of New Hanover Medical Center, and Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 25, 2020. A spring burial service in Pulaski, NY will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Lois Gates to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
