Bentley - “The Camden Advance Journal, of December 3, carried the following obituary of a former resident of Pulaski: Charles W. Bentley, 78, resident here for about fifteen years, died last evening at 6 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace W. Smith, Sixth street, with whom he has resided for the past eight years. Mr. Bentley has been very poorly for a year and particularly for the last few months, suffering from heart trouble and other complications. The deceased leaves no near relatives. Most of his life was spent in Pulaski and that section of Oswego and Jefferson counties. Mr. Bentley became interested in a hardware business here, in a financial way, which first brought him to this village to make his home. Later he established a vulcanizing works which he sold to Charles F. Snow, continuing in his employ until about three years ago. Mr. Bentley was a fine man and had many firm friends here. He had been devotedly cared for by Mr. and Mrs. M. Smith during the late years and through his final sickness. A prayer service, conducted by Rev. N. A. Darling, pastor of the Methodist church will be held at the house, Saturday morning at 9 o'clock and the remains taken to Pulaski for burial.” The body arrived in Pulaski, Saturday morning and committal service took place at the grave in Pulaski cemetery, where Mr. Bentley was laid beside his wife and parents. Mr. B. G. Seamans conducted the service at the grave. Mr. Bentley was born in Pulaski, October 2, 1848. Many Pulaski people knew Mr. Bentley as he was identified with business in the village and for several years as salesman in Charles H. Brooks’ store.
