- Newspaper Obituary - January 31, 2006 Watertown Daily Times - ROBERT S. GROFF SR. - CUSTODIAN, SECURITY GUARD - The funeral for Robert S. Groff Sr., 75, of 4602 County Route 289, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek, with Brother Thomas Tschauder, of Adams Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, officiating. Spring burial will be in Ellisburg Rural Cemetery. Mr. Groff died Sunday at his home. There will be no calling hours. Mr. Groff worked on various construction jobs and then was a security officer at Shell Point Village, Fort Myers, Fla., and at Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown. He then was a custodian at South Jefferson Central School, Adams, retiring in 1990. Born May 24, 1930, at Sackets Harbor, son of William and Clara Harwood Groff, he attended Adams schools. He married Jeanette L. Dealing on March 13, 1949, in Lorraine. They lived on Hoxie Road, Mannsville. She died Nov. 20, 1993. Mr. Groff served in the Army from 1951 to 1953 and then in the Army Reserve until 1956. Surviving are seven daughters and five sons-in-law, Della and Stanley Loomis, Brenda Hall, Cindy and David Kingsley and Rosalind and Timothy Redden, all of Mannsville, Teresa Briggs, Adams, Karen and Richard Remington, Ellisburg, and Donna and Charles Young, Henderson; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert S. Jr., Altmar, and Brian and Robin, Adams; a sister, Dorothy Pearson, Pierrepont Manor; four brothers, Charles, town of Pamelia, Richard and James, both of Adams, and Larry, California; 30 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers and two sisters died before him.
