Newspaper Obituary - Tuesday, December 13, 1994 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - Kenneth Wheeler, Ex- Highway Chief, Dies - Kenneth C. Wheeler Sr., 79, Route 13, died Monday at his home. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski, with the Rev. Timothy Hurley officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Williamstown Fire Department or the Pine Meadows Wesleyan Church, Altmar. Surviving are his wife, Mildred; three sons, Kenneth Jr., Altmar, William E., Sodus, and Herbert J., Germany; three daughters, Josephine N. VanWinkle, Peggy J. Kennedy and Janice L. Oakes, all of Williamstown; 28 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles, Williamstown; and three sisters, Libbie Allen and Laura Mae Skellington, both of Williamstown, and Edith Wilcox, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Three daughters, Doris, Joyce and Charlotte, died in 1934, 1956 and 1991, respectively. Born on May 21, 1915, in Williamstown, a son of Charles E. and Nettie Wafful Wheeler, he married Mildred Sparks on June 30, 1934. A life resident of Williamstown, Mr. Wheeler retired in 1988 after 18 years as highway superintendent of the town of Williamstown Highway Department. He joined the highway department in 1950 and also owned and operated a dairy farm for many years. Mr. Wheeler was a member of the Oswego County Highway Superintendents Association and an honorary member of the Williamstown Fire Department. He also was a member of the Ricard Grange and the Williamstown Senior Citizens.
Kenneth Wheeler was born at Kasoag Lake May 21,1915, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wheeler, who farmed all his life and was also Justice of the Peace for twenty years. Kenneth attended school in Ricard.
After school, he worked on the farm. In June 1934 he married Mildred Sparks. After he was married they bought their own farm in Ricard, New York, which he operated until 1968. He then moved to his present location on Highway 13, past Checker
House Corners.
After he was married, he worked for the Oswego County Highway Dept. for six years. He then worked for Frank Rogers in the Upstate Wire Co. in Williamstown for six years. He worked at Laribee Wire Co. in Camden four years. In 1962, he started
working for the Town of Williamstown. He became Superintendent of Highways in 1969
