      Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, July 16, 1941 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Phineas Stevens Dies in Orwell - Orwell - Phineas L. Stevens passed away July 10, 1941, in the Oswego County Sanatorium, where he had been a patient several weeks. He was born in this village July 21, 1896, son of Ralph Leroy and Frances Towles Stevens. Before his illness, he conducted a barbershop in this village, and served as town collector last year. He is survived by his wife, Carrie DeLapp Stevens; five sons, Ralph, Robert, Guy, William and Phineas, Jr.; his father, Ralph L. Stevens, all of Orwell; and a brother, Harold Stevens, of Albion. Funeral services were conducted in his late home Saturday afternoon, July 12, with the Rev. Alexander Stockton and the Rev. Donald M. Cobb, pastor of Orwell Union church officiating. The bearers were Don H. Minor, Clarence Hager, Herbert Jeanes, Orville Stevens, Robert Stevens, all of Orwell, and George Stevens, of Lacona. Burial was made in Evergreen cemetery.
