      Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, July 4, 1957 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Giles E. Stevens Dies at Age 87 - Giles E. Stevens, 87, former Oswego county deputy sheriff and lifelong resident of Orwell, died Thursday, June 27, 1957 at the Evergreen nursing home, where he had been a patient ten months. The funeral was Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Foster funeral home, Pulaski. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery, Orwell. Surviving Mr. Stevens are two daughters, Mrs. Oliver Kinney, Newark Valley, and Mrs. Carol Nelson, Rome, and two grandchildren. Mr. Stevens was born November 29, 1869 [sic], at Orwell, son of Ed and Arilla Dennison Stevens. On March 29, 1894, he married Miss Estella Horr of Mannsville. She died in 1938. Mr. Stevens was an Oswego county deputy sheriff for years and also served as an attendant in county court.
