John 'Pat' McGrath, 63, of Sarasota, Florida and summer resident of Madison, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2014. He is predeceased by his Mother, Viola 'Vi' Abel also of Sarasota. He is survived by his partner of 16 years, Monica Neligon, his sister Frances Mary Sullivan of Dunedin, Florida, and step sister Audrey Adams of Stonington, Connecticut. Pat was born in New York, NY. He was a graduate of Jacksonville University. Following graduation, he began his career with Owens Corning followed by 15 years with the Kohler Corporation in Farmington, CT. Upon retirement in 2005, Pat and Monica boarded their sailboat 'Aviana' and cruised the eastern seaboard from Maine to Key West, Florida. The Journey lasted many years, stopping at many ports along the way. Eventually they settled in Sarasota and spent the summers in Madison.
Pat is remembered by his friends and family as a kind and loving person who exemplified the word 'gentleman' A memorial service will be held on September 20th, 2014 at 4:00 pm on 405 Sapphire Dr, Sarasota. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the YMCA Foundation of Sarasota 1 South School Av Suite 302, Sarasota Fl. 34237.
