      Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, January 23, 1958 Syracuse Herald Journal - Syracuse, New York - Mrs. West, In Business 90 Years, Dies - Camden - Mrs. Martha West, for 40 years, a business woman in Camden. died yesterday at her home at 23 Park Street after three months illness. Mrs. West was born in Camden, July 18, 1871, a daughter of the late John and Delia Ackley Carleton. On December 22, 1892 she married Addison E. West of Oswego. They resided in that city for 18 years, living later for six years in Rome. In 1918 they came to Camden where they conducted the grocery store known as A. E. West and Company. Mr. West died in 1940. Since then Mrs. West has been associated in business with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Herrmann. Mrs. West was a member of Camden First Methodist Church and active in all its societies as long as health permitted. She was a charter member of the WSCS, a member of Camden Chapter, D.A.R. and WCTU. Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Hermann, Camden; a grandson, H. Carlton Herrmann, Central Square; three great-granddaughters. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the J. Floyd Smith Funeral Home on Miner Avenue, with the Rev. Allison C. Wood officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Orwell.
