Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, October 10, 1929 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Orwell Loses Well Loved Citizen On Thursday morning, October 3, at 11 o'clock, marked the passing away of the life of Lemuel Chase, age 77, of the town of Orwell. Mr. Chase was born in the town of Sandy Creek, December 16, 1853, and is made his home in Orwell for many years. He was loved and respected by all with whom he came in contact. He won the hearts of his fellows in every walk of life, and in any business or religious activity. The citizens and friends of Orwell will miss him, from the youngest school tot to the oldest in our community. But it can, with confidence, be said that he has gone on to that place of eternal abode and satisfaction, to be in the presence of God, whom he hath loved and served many years of his life. Mr. Chase is survived by his widow, Mrs. Eva Chase; one brother, Simon Chase; two sons, Homer Chase of Osceola, and Virgil Chase of Cleveland, Ohio, and one daughter, Mrs. Edward Clement, of Cleveland, Ohio. Funeral services were held in the church on Sunday afternoon at 2:15. The pastor, A. Henry Giuliano, officiated, and interment was made at Evergreen cemetery, Orwell.
Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, October 10, 1929 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Lemuel E. Chase - After several months of declining health, Lemuel E. Chase passed away Thursday forenoon, October 3, aged 76 years. He was born in the town of Sandy Creek, but had made his home in Orwell for nearly thirty years. Mr. Chase is survived by his widow, Mrs. Eva Chase; two sons, Homer Chase, of Osceola, New York, and Virgil Chase, of Cleveland, Ohio, and one daughter, Mrs. Edward Clement, of Cleveland, Ohio. The funeral services conducted in Union church, Sunday afternoon by Rev. A. H. Giuliano, was attended by a large number of relatives and friends, who gathered to pay respect to one whom they all esteemed. He was a man who had many friends and no enemies. His casket was covered with a blanket of roses and surrounded with many beautiful floral pieces. Burial was made in Evergreen cemetery.
