Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, May 25, 1938 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Richland - Mrs. Jessie Balch - Services for Mrs. Jessie Balch, daughter of William and Mary Bartlett Avery, who died Sunday, May 15th in a Utica hospital after several months’ illness, were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17th in the Methodist Episcopal church, Richland by Rev. Charles Shumway of Taberg with burial in Evergreen cemetery, Orwell. Born at Plessis, Jefferson county, August 16, 1872, she spent much of her younger life at Orwell and for the past 18 years has resided in Richland. On October 5, 1892 she was united in marriage with Arthur Balch who survives, together with two sons, Russell and Clinton and six grandchildren and one great grandchild and one brother, Arthur Avery of Aurora, Illinois. Mrs. Balch, through the years, was always an active member of the Methodist Episcopal church, the Silver Circle and Bible classes of the church. Also the W.C.T.U. and when a resident of Orwell, a member of the “Willing Workers” of the Orwell church. Mrs. Balch was always a faithful Christian worker and a true and kind friend. God understands the way you take, He knows the trials of each day, And sympathizing, lends an ear To hear you e’en before you pray. He walks with those who trust His love, He holds them by the hand to guide; What need to fear or be dismayed, With His dear Presence by your side.
