      Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, January 28, 1981 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Vernon and Ruth Carpenter - A double funeral for Vernon Carpenter, 75, and his wife Ruth, 72, who both died Wednesday, January 14, 1981 at Mercy Hospital, Watertown, was at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Foster Hax Funeral Home with Rev. Virgil Hager, pastor of the Sandy Creek Baptist Church, officiating. Spring burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell. Mr. Carpenter was admitted to the hospital Tuesday evening after being stricken ill in the parking lot of the Oswego County Savings Bank. Mrs. Carpenter had been a patient since November 3. They died within 19 minutes of each other. Mr. Carpenter is survived by a sister, Mrs. Vernetta Clifford, Orwell-Redfield Road, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Carpenter is survived by nieces and nephews. Mr. Carpenter was born on July 6, 1905 in Orwell, a son of Charles and Rosa Stevens Carpenter, and was educated at Orwell schools. On January 10, 1930 he married Ruth F. Regan in Solvay. The couple lived in North Syracuse for many years, and Mr. Carpenter worked as a foreman in the stock area of Allied Chemical Company, Solvay plant, retiring in 1965 after 31 years of service. Upon retirement couple moved to Little America in the Town of Orwell. They were former members of the Orwell Union Church and later joined the First Baptist Church, Syracuse. Mrs. Carpenter was born in Syracuse on April 19, 1908, a daughter of Steven and Delia Barry Rega [sic], and attended Syracuse schools. She worked for many years as an operator for the New York Telephone Company, Syracuse.
