Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, March 7, 1991 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - Alice Vernetta Clifford, 91, formerly of County Route 2, died Wednesday in a hospital in Burlington, Vermont. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski. Burial will be in the spring in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. She is survived by a son, William G., Syracuse; two daughters, Barbara Stevens, St. Albans, Vermont, with whom Mrs. Clifford had resided, and Elizabeth O'Rourke, Grosse Pointe, Michigan; 13 grandchildren and several great- grandchildren. Born September 16, 1899, in Orwell, daughter of Charles E. and Rosa M. Stevens Carpenter, she graduated from Union Academy of Belleville in 1916 and from Pulaski Training Class in 1917. She received a bachelor's degree in 1950 from Oswego State University College and taught in area schools for 40 years, retiring in 1962. She first married Walter Fay Endsley in 1921. Mr. Endsley died in 1924. She married Granville J. Clifford March 26, 1932. Mr. Clifford died April 29, 1979, at the age of 85. Mrs. Clifford was a member of the Orwell Union Church and the Pulaski Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member and past matron of the Williamstown Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Onondaga County Retired Teachers Association and a past member and past noble grand of the Orwell Rebekah Lodge.
