Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, February 15, 1945 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Dr. Lavina R. Davis Dies In Pulaski - Dr. Lavina R. Davis, 81, died at her home in North street early Thursday morning after an illness of two years. She was a practicing physician at Oneida for more than 40 years but retired about five years ago and had since lived in the home of the late Dr. Clayton Davis, her brother in North street. Dr. Davis was born at Orwell September 13, 1863, a daughter of James F. and Amelia Stowell Davis. She was a graduate of Oberlin College and the College of Medicine, Syracuse University. She was one of the early and ardent advocates of women's suffrage, and a leader, state officer and national lecturer in W.C.T.U. work. For five years she has been spending her summers at the family home in Pulaski and her winters in Florida, but ill health forced her to remain in Pulaski this winter. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Ellen Davis Montague. Two brothers, Dr. Clayton Davis and Freelon J. Davis, former Oswego county district attorney, are dead. Private services were held at 2 p.m. Friday in the body was taken to Rochester for cremation.
