Newspaper Obituary - Sunday, October 8, 2000 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - Gladys R. Carpenter, Homemaker Gladys R. Carpenter, 90, of 1615 Sterling Drive, Lakeland, Florida, formerly of Pulaski, died Thursday at her home. Born April 30, 1910, in the town of Sandy Creek, daughter of Simeon and Lillian Knight Carpenter, she was a homemaker. She married Kenneth W. Carpenter on August 15, 1928. They lived in Pulaski and moved to Lakeland in 1949. Mrs. Carpenter assisted her husband in the operation of his appliance store in Lakeland. Mr. Carpenter died September 7, 1972. Mrs. Carpenter was a past noble grand of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 26, Lakeland. She was also a member of Sunniland Rebekah Lodge 47, Lakeland, and was its past assembly president for the state of Florida. Surviving are two grandchildren, Gary Blankenship, Lakeland, and Denise Gaston, Tampa, Florida; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her three children died before her. Kenneth G. died in 1938, Mary Lou Clotfelter died in 1979, and Fred died earlier this year. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. today at Lanier Funeral Home, Lakeland. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell, with the Rev. Donald Wiltse, assistant pastor of Park United Methodist Church, officiating. Local arrangements are with Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek.
