      Newspaper Obituary -Wednesday, May 24, 1978 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Lacona Man, 81, Expires - J. D. Clement, 81, of South Ridge Road, Lacona, died Saturday morning, May 20 in the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where he had been a patient for five days. He was born August 17, 1896 at Altmar, son of Walter and Esther Prouty Clement. He was graduated from Sandy Creek High School. He was married to the former Norma Mae Elkin on July 17, 1920 at Taberg, by the bridegroom's father, Rev. Walter B. Clement. Mrs. Clement died May 28, 1971. He owned and operated a farm on the Orwell-Lacona Road. After his retirement from farming, he was employed as a carpenter by Arnold Archibee. Mr. Clement was a member of IOOF #348, Orwell, Pulaski Lodge #415 F&AM, the Soule Brothers Sportsmen’s Club, of Lacona and the Sandy Creek Grange #127. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Donald (Gertrude) Elkin, Orwell, a brother, Durl Clement, Sandy Creek, and several nieces and nephews. Masonic services were conducted Sunday evening at the funeral home. The bearers were Tom Blount, William Clement, Paul Kenway, Harry Elkin, Ronald Jones and Paul Fuller. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek. Rev. Ivan Greenfield pastor of the Sandy Creek United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell.
