Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, September 21, 1933 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Orwell - Don A. Hilton - Don A. Hilton, a life-long resident of this town, passed away Saturday noon September 16, from an illness of several months. He was born August 12, 1857, the youngest child of the late Alonzo and Mary Jewell Hilton. When quite a young man he was united in marriage with Miss Isabel Weston. To them were born four daughters, only one of whom survives him, Mrs. Frank B. Minor. After the death of his first wife he married the former Miss Grace Stowell, who survives. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Albertta Vandewalker [sic], of Osceola, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Hilton was a member of Pulaski Chapter F. & A.M., Welcome Lodge No. 680, I.O.O.F., of Orwell, and a regular attendant of Orwell Union church when his health permitted. His cheerful manner and kind disposition won for him many friends throughout his life. The funeral services in Orwell Union church, Monday afternoon, at two o'clock, were attended by a large assemblage of relatives and friends. Rev. H. H. Barnard officiated, assisted by Rev. T. T. Davies of Sandy Creek, and Rev. Jay Stowell of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Cyrel J. Potter and Mrs. Potter sang two selections. Members of Welcome Lodge I.O.O.F., attended the funeral in a body and conducted their committal service. The bearers were grandsons of the deceased: Howard, Harold and Lester Blodgett; Don and Lloyd Minor, and J. G. Hutchins. Burial was made in the family plot in Evergreen cemetery.
