Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, February 25, 1954 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Ralph Stevens, 85, Dies February 20 - Ralph Stevens, 85, descendant of pioneer families of Orwell, died Saturday, February 20, 1954 at the Cheney Nursing Home, Sandy Creek, where he had been a patient for a short time. His wife, Mrs. Lucy Chase Stevens, died several years ago. He was born in Orwell, May 10, 1868, son of John and Amy Stowell Stevens, members of families of original settlers. He always made his home in that vicinity and for many years was a tie inspector for the New York Central Railroad. - Daughters Survive - He is survived by three daughters, Miss Helen Stevens, High Falls; Mrs. Ethelyn Evans, Orwell and Mrs. Hazel Izzo, Rochester; a sister, Mrs. Ward Greenfield, Orwell; a brother, Ernest Stevens, Orwell, and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A prayer service was held at the Brown Funeral Home, Altmar, at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday with services at 2 p.m. in the Orwell Union Church, conducted by the Rev. Wesley Baker, pastor. Burial was in Orwell Evergreen cemetery.
