Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, December 23, 1954 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - H. W. Damon 91, Expires - Herbert W. Damon, 91, died at his North Street home early Tuesday morning following an illness of several years. His only immediate survivor is his wife, Mrs. Harriet Hollis Damon. Mr. Damon was born May 30, 1863, at West Camden, the son of Joseph and Melissa Hedger Damon who had recently come from New Hampshire. Following the death of his mother, when he was three years old, he lived with his aunt, Mrs. Albert J. Potter at Orwell, where he attended school. He came to Pulaski in 1875 where he was employed by M. L. Hollis and his grocery store where he later became a member of the firm, Hollis & Damon. In 1892 he moved to the Midwest where he was employed for a time in Marshall, Minnesota, and later for several years in Helena, Montana. He was married to Miss Harriet Hollis in 1908. He returned to Pulaski in 1912 and opened a men's clothing store in which he continued to operate until 1930, when he retired from active work. Since then he has lived in retirement. He was a member of the Congregational Church and was active in its affairs until poor health of recent years. He was an honorary Deacon at the time of his death. He was also a member of Pulaski Chapter 415 F. & A.M. and a life member of Pulaski Chapter R.A.M. Funeral services will be held at the Foster Funeral Home Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Cyrus M. Gonigam, pastor of the Congregational Church officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Orwell. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday afternoon and evening.
