- Born in Redfield, Vivian was educated in the village school and left as a teen to work for the Leary family in Pulaski. It was there that she met Rowland Bass formally of Orwell. The couple eloped and were married in Texas in 1940, remaining there for four years during Rowlands active duty. Following their separation Vivian returned to Oswego County where she lived for a time in Pulaski. In 1947 Vivian moved to Lakeland Florida where she worked for 20 years at Maas Brother Department Store in the cafeteria. In the early 1950s Vivian also managed Duvard's Diner with her 2nd husband Duvard Hornsby. Vivian was a hard worker by nature, she raised her four children alone most of her life. She retained close contact with many of her siblings and Neice and nephews. For many years her youngest sister Maureen lived nearby her. Vivian spent many of her summer vacations back home in the north. She often stayed with her sister Jane and Jane's family. She kept a close correspondence with her life-long best friend Eva (Bennett) McCune of Pulaski and Oregon
