Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, July 30, 1953 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Orwell - Mrs. W. Hilton Rites Are Held - Last rites were held for Mrs. Whiting (Amelia) Hilton Sunday at her home at 1:30 and at 2:00 p.m. at the Orwell Union Church of which she was a member. The Rev. Wesley Baker officiated. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery. Our community was deeply saddened last Thursday when word was received that Mrs. Hilton had passed away Wednesday night at 8:40 in a hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina where she was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage. Mr. and Mrs. Hilton had left Monday for Vero Beach, Florida. Their sons, Jack and Melvin left Wednesday forenoon for Chapel Hill on receiving word from their father of their mother's illness but did not reach there before she passed away. Mrs. Hilton was born in Orwell March 14, 1900, the daughter of Charles and Viola Barker. She was married to Mr. Hilton May 7, 1918. She is survived by her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Claud (Joyce) McKennon of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two sons, Jack and Melvin of Orwell; five grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Raymond (Dorothy) Leach of Lodi, California; her stepmother, Mrs. Amy Barker of Parish and eight half-brothers and sisters, Hilton, Harvey, Paul, Clinton and Oscar Barker, Miss Viola Barker, Mrs. Irene Cean and Mrs. Frances Nellis.
