Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, September 27, 1934 Syracuse Journal - Syracuse, New York - John J. Hilton Succumbs - John J. Hilton of Malloy road, East Syracuse, father of Clarence W. Hilton, of the Hotel Hilton, died Wednesday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Albert Coling, 734 Stinard avenue. Born August 2, 1865 [sic], in Orwell, Mr. Hilton lived there until two years ago, when he retired and moved to a farm on the Molloy road. He was a carpenter and farmer. His mother, Mrs. Pearlina Stowell Hilton, died at Orwell April 17. Mr. Hilton was a descendent of a Norman knight, Adam, who went to England in 1066. His great-great- grandfather, Samuel Stowell, was a sergeant in George Washington's army. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Rosetta Wart Hilton; three sons, Ora J. Hilton of Orwell, Fay S. Hilton of Baldwinsville and Clarence W. Hilton; two daughters, Mrs. Rollo Barker of Marathon and Mrs. Coling; a brother, George Hilton, of Pulaski, and a sister, Mrs. Judson Williams, of Pulaski, also 13 grandchildren. Funeral services will take place at the home of Mrs. Coling at noon Saturday, with Rev. Walter Clement, pastor of First Methodist Episcopal church at Taberg, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery, Orwell, where prayer will be offered at the cemetery chapel at 2:30 p.m.
