Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, March 26, 1964 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Ward Hilton, 70 Dies in Hospital - Ward Hilton, 70, Richland, retired Orwell farmer and pony dealer, died March 20, 1964 at the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where he had been a patient for 24 hours. The funeral was held Monday at 1:30 at the family home in Orwell and at 2 p.m. at the Orwell Union church with Rev. Robert Murphy, pastor, officiated. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery, Orwell. Mr. Hilton is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mabel Nicholls Hilton and a son, Charles L. F. Hilton, Orwell, and six grandchildren. - Born in Orwell - He was born on December 23, 1893, in Orwell, son of LaFayette and Ella Fink Hilton and attended schools in the Redfield area. He married Miss Mabel Nicholls on September 7, 1921 at the home of the bride’s parents in Williamstown. Following their marriage, Mr. Hilton was employed as a manager of milk plants at Pierrepont Manor and Centerville. He moved to the farm in Orwell in 1928, retiring from that occupation in 1950. For the past 30 years, Mr. Hilton was a substitute rural mail carrier. Mr. Hilton served overseas during World War I with Company B of the 310th infantry. He attended the Orwell Union church and was a member of the American Legion Post 358, Pulaski, and also the V.F.W., Lacona.
