Military Service: Veteran of the United States Army during World War I; Inducted at Pulaski, New York on April 1, 1918 with rank of Private; Served overseas in Company A, 307th Machine Gun Battalion, 78th Division from June 1, 1918 to May 19, 1919; Honorably discharged May 25, 1919 with rank of Private First Class. Son of Hobart and Rose Catherine Shepard Hilton. Husband of Bernice Amelia Barker Hilton (married May 7, 1918 at Orwell, New York) & Cecile Anna Blodgett Hutchins Hilton (married November 8, 1955 at Orwell, New York.)
Newspaper Obituary - Monday, February 4, 1985 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Whiting M. Hilton - Whiting M. Hilton, 90, of Deerfield Apartments, Pulaski, died Thursday in Oswego Hospital after a short illness. He was born March 21, 1894, in Ipswich, South Dakota. He attended South Dakota schools. He served in World War I with the United States Army in France. He was first married to Amelia Barker in 1918. She died in 1953. He later married Cecile Hutchings in 1955. He was a self-employed carpenter and owned Orwell Ladder Company. He also worked for the Sandy Creek Central School District in the maintenance department. He was a member of the Orwell Union Church and the Russell Tryon Post American Legion in Altmar. Surviving are two sons, Jack E. of Orwell and Melvin M. of Lakeland, Florida; a daughter, Joyce Watson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a step-son, Fred Hutchings of Orwell; five step-daughters, Frieda Kaul of Orwell, Lillie Franklin of Pulaski, Julia Howard of Orwell, Norma Hutchings of Lakeland, Florida, and Ruby Woolson of Pulaski; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Private services were conducted at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Jeremy Duncan officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Donations may be made to Orwell Union Church organ fund. Arrangements Were by the Foster Hax Funeral Home.
