Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, March 19, 1970 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Latham Pennock dies suddenly at his store in Pulaski - Latham E. Pennock, 56, owner and operator of the Western Auto store in Pulaski died suddenly at his store about 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 1970. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Park United Methodist Church with a cousin, Rev. Robert Pennock of Buffalo officiating. Friends may call at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home in Pulaski Wednesday from 7 to 9 and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Masonic services will be held Thursday evening at 8. Friends wishing may donate to their favorite charity. - Served in Navy - Mr. Pennock was born December 18, 1913 at Syracuse, the son of Rozelle and Charoline Moerschler Pennock [sic]. He was graduated in 1932 from Lyons High School and operated the Western Auto Associate store there before enlisting in the Coast Guard in 1942. After taking amphibious training, he was loaned to the Navy and assigned to their amphibious forces. He was overseas for 22 months, first at the New Hebrides islands in the Pacific and later participated in the invasion of North Africa, Sicily and Italy, receiving his discharge in November 1945. On January 9, 1944 he was married to Miss Keitha Keene, daughter of E. Cornwall and Myrtie Tifft Keene of Lacona, the ceremony being performed by the late Rev. Herbert Harrison at the Sandy Creek Methodist parsonage. Since February 1946 he had owned and operated the Western Auto Associates store in Pulaski. - Active in Community - Mr. Pennock was Justice of the Peace of the town of Richland, and office he had held for six years. A member of Park United Methodist Church, he had been a church treasurer for 17 years. He was a past master of Pulaski Lodge 415 F&AM, a Past District Deputy Grand Master of Oswego District F&AM, and a member of Robert Edwards Post American Legion in Pulaski. Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Leon E. (Myrtie) Schilling of New York City and Miss Kay M. Pennock, a senior at Pulaski Academy; his father, Rozelle A. Pennock, who lived with his son at their home on Route 11 out of Pulaski; a sister, Mrs. Roy (Myrtis) Hopkins of Garden Grove, California and two step-sisters and one step-brother.
