Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, May 24, 1928 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Charles Hilton - Charles Hilton, aged 79 years and 5 months, passed away Monday evening, May 21, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John W. Lattimer. He suffered a stroke of paralysis Thursday, May 17, from which he failed to rally. He was born in the town of Orwell, December 20, 1848, a son of the late Alonzo and Mary (Fox) Hilton [sic]. He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Mary Wyman, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Erastus Wyman. After her death, he was united in marriage April 6, 1875, with Miss Anna J. Waggoner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Wagoner. To them was born one daughter, Elvira, who with her aged mother survived the father and husband. He is also survived by one brother, Don A. Hilton, of Orwell; one sister, Mrs. Alferetta Van De Walker, of Osceola, and by several nieces and nephews. For many years he had been a member of Orwell M. E. church. Mr. and Mrs. Hilton celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary April 6, 1925, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Lattimer, where many friends gathered for the happy occasion. The funeral services were conducted in the house Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, by Rev. A. H. Giuliano, of Orwell and Rev. T. T. Davies, pastor of the Congregational church at Sandy Creek. Burial was made in Evergreen cemetery.
Newspaper Article - Thursday, May 31, 1928 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Orwell - The funeral of Charles Hilton, Thursday, May 24th, was attended by a large number of relatives. Friends were present from Osceola, Redfield, Pulaski, Richland, Skaneateles, Boylston, Lacona and Sandy Creek. In the obituary of Mr. Hilton last week, the maiden name of his mother was incorrectly given. It should have been Mary Jewell. She was a sister of the late Rev. Frank Jewell, of San Francisco, California, a native of Orwell.
