Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, August 5, 1926 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - A. E. Olmstead - After an illness of more than a month, although his health became in paired about two years ago, the death of Arthur E. Olmstead, 75, native of Oswego County, occurred Saturday at the residence of his son, Orimell B. Olmstead of 34 Park street, Pulaski, where he had made his home for a long time. Mr. Olmstead was born June 20, 1850, in the town of Orwell. His father, Orimell B. Olmstead, was numbered among the early settlers of that town, where in 1840 he engaged in mercantile pursuits and which he followed many years. He was succeeded in 1874 by the junior Olmstead and the business has since remained in the family, at present the general store at Orwell being operated by Frederick L. Olmstead, youngest son of the deceased. Arthur E. Olmstead came to Pulaski in 1892, and purchased the plant of the Ontario Iron Works, originally established in 1832. Soon after acquiring the property he began extensive improvements to the buildings and later erected a large brick building, making it one of the most extensive iron works in this section. Besides being a member of the Congregational Church at Orwell, Mr. Olmstead was raised in Pulaski Lodge 415, F. and A.M., in 1885. While a resident of the village of Orwell he served as supervisor of that town for 16 consecutive years. He was affiliated with the Republican Party and his excellent work in behalf of the town as its representative in the Board of Supervisors prompted residents of the town of Orwell to return him all these years at town meeting time. Surviving are two sons, Orimell B. Olmstead of Pulaski and Frederick L. Olmstead of Orwell. A short service was held at the Olmstead residence at 1:15 o'clock, Monday afternoon. The body was taken by Undertaker Paul K. Foster of Pulaski to the Congregational Church at Orwell, where last rites were held at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Thomas T. Davies of Sandy Creek. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery, at Orwell.
