Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, September 21, 1977 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Mrs. Verna I. Hilton, 85, Dies in Hospital - Mrs. Verna I. Hilton, 85, Falls Road, Richland, Route 1, wife of Arthur E. Hilton, died Sunday, September 11, 1977 in Oswego Hospital following a short illness. Born October 10, 1891, in the Town of Redfield, daughter of Fred and Emma Ward Joyner, she attended Town of Redfield schools and married Arthur E. Hilton December 16, 1910. The couple has resided on the Falls Road all their married life. The couple has owned and operated a farm and sawmill, doing custom woodworking. Mr. Hilton, 91, still works in the family sawmill. Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Lorenzo W., Richland, Hugh H., Falls Road, Town of Orwell, and Richard W., Pulaski; two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Rossman, Lacona, and Mrs. Rex (Emma) Teachout, Pulaski; 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Harriet Lyons, Pierrepont Manor, and Mrs. Minnie Manigold, Pulaski. The funeral was Wednesday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ivan Greenfield, pastor, Orwell Union Church, officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell.
