Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, May 2, 1979 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Granville J. Clifford, 85 - Granville J. Clifford, 85, Orwell, died Sunday, April 29, 1979, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, after a short illness. He was born April 24, 1894, at Redfield, son of Nelson and Julia Brown Clifford. He attended school at Greensboro and married Vernetta Carpenter on March 26, 1932. He worked for the Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, retiring in 1959. He was a member of the Orwell Union Church, a past noble grand of Welcome Lodge 680 IOOF, Orwell, and a past master of Amboy Lodge 650 F&AM, Williamstown. He received a distinguished service award from the Masonic Lodge in 1976. He was a life member of the Mad River Club. He is survived by his wife, Vernetta; a son, William G., Otisco; two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Barbara) Stevens, St. Albans, Vermont, and Mrs. Thomas (Elizabeth) O’Rourke, Gross Point, Michigan; two sisters, Mrs. William (Maude) Dempsey, Liverpool, and Mrs. William (Correan) Hasseler, Watertown; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Thursday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski, Rev. Stanley Tanner and Rev. Robert Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell. Odd Fellows services were conducted Tuesday evening followed by Masonic services. Contributions may be made to Amboy Lodge 650 or to the Orwell Union Church Memorial fund.
