- Nelson V. Atkinson Obituary
Nelson V. Atkinson, age, 86, life resident of Pulaski, passed away Wednesday at his home. Nelson was born September 22, 1938, in Pulaski, the son of Carl and Cynthia Wadsworth Atkinson. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 1956 and attended Onondaga Community College. Nelson was married to his wife of 65 years, Janice Scott Atkinson, on August 20, 1960, at Park United Methodist Church in Pulaski. He was a sales representative, selling construction and farm equipment, for 35 years. Prior to that, he was employed by Fulton Boiler Works and Douglaston Manor.
Nelson was a devoted family man to his sons and grandchildren, coaching Little League and Pulaski-Sandy Creek church league basketball for many years. At one time Nelson served as president of both the Sports Booster and Band Booster clubs at PACS. He was also an active community volunteer serving as past president and member of the JayCees and on the Pulaski Village Water Board. Nelson was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching SU, the NY Giants, NY Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers. In high school he played football, baseball and basketball. In his later years, Nelson was a member of the Elms Golf Club and played in many leagues.
Surviving are his wife, Janice of Pulaski, four sons, Jeffrey (Karen) Atkinson of Canandaigua, Michael (Kathryn) Atkinson of Philomont, VA, Peter (Barbara) Atkinson of Orwell, and Scott (Beth) Atkinson of Orlando, FL, grandchildren, Ian Atkinson, Christopher Atkinson, Samuel Nelson Atkinson and Carissa Martin, his brothers, Larry (Kay) Atkinson of Pulaski, Donald (Karen) Atkinson of Wesley Chapel, FL and Tom (Dorothy) Atkinson of Kortright, NY and several nieces and nephews. Nelson was predeceased by his brother and sister in-law James and Pat Atkinson.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring at a time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either NOCA, 21 Delano Street, Pulaski, NY 13142, Pulaski Little League, 30 Windcrest Drive, Pulaski, NY 13142 or PROP (Preservation and Revitalization of Pulaski), PO Box 621, Pulaski, NY 13142.
