WATERTOWN, N.Y. - James V. Coleman, 73, of 752 Gotham St., passed Tuesday, July 15, at his home.
A prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, at Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown. A funeral mass will be said 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Church. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, at the funeral home.
Born Oct. 21, 1940, in Watertown, the son of Daniel and Margaret Carlin Coleman, he graduated in 1959 from Immaculate Heart Academy.
Having started work in high school, Mr. Coleman was employed at the A&P grocery until he entered the Air Force on July 27, 1960. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 14, 1964.
Following his military service, Mr. Coleman apprenticed as a mason and attained journeyman status, working in the trade for 18 years. In 1982 he began work at Watertown Correctional Facility as a plant utilities engineer and continued there until his retirement in 2011.
In his free time, Mr. Coleman enjoyed reading and watching sports.
He was an avid supporter of the New England Patriots and Syracuse Orange.
Among his survivors are a daughter, Kelly A. Coleman, Roseville, Calif.,from his marriage to Ann (Souva) Coleman; a daughter, Kathleen Coleman Burgo, Long Beach, Calif., and a son, James V. Coleman, Lebanon, N.H., from his marriage to Phyllis (Wilson) Coleman; two brothers and their wives, Michael and Ginger Coleman, Harlem, Ga., and Patrick and Dorothy Coleman, Watertown; two sisters and their husbands, Mary Jane and Bob Deline, Ormond Beach, Fla., and Corky and Bob Taylor, Adams Center; four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Four brothers Daniel, Paul and Joseph Coleman, and three sisters Margaret Peckham, Rita Deline, and Carolyn Pratt, all died before him.
