Ernest M. Thurston Sr., 66, of Donovan Road, died Friday at his home after a brief illness.
Mr. Thurston was a native of Springport, and lived in the Auburn area for many years. He was a former member of the Carpenters Joiners and Millwrighters Local Union No. 453.
Mr. Thurston was involved in the Throop Volunteer Fire Department and in Town of Throop where he served on the Assessment Board of Review. He owned and operated E.B. Thurston Construction Co. and Thurston Sports Center, Auburn.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Dorothy Ryan Thurston of Throop; his mother, Sarah Gunn Thurston of Cayuga; four daughters, Victoria L. Noftell of Auburn, Deborah A. Myers of Auburn, Susan M. Pennell of Moravia, and Nancy L. St. Clair of Auburn; one son, Ernest B. of Auburn; four brothers, Harry of Lockport, Gary of Cayuga, Stephen of Auburn; and William of Cayuga; five sisters, Margaret Wrisley of Powels Point, N.C., Sylvia Davis and Beverly Dykoschak, both of Auburn, and Catherine O'Hara of Jordan; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services are 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Farrell's Funeral Home, 84 South St., Auburn.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at funeral home.
