- October 21, 2005 James H. Curtis, 66, of Sterling, NY, died Friday, October 21, 2005, at Oswego Hospital. Jim was born in Syracuse, NY, on December 31, 1938, the son of the late James W. and Betty Tomady Curtis. He was a life resident of the Sterling-Martville area. He was the owner and operator of Jim's Used Cars, Martville, NY, and was retired from the New York Central Railroad. He was an avid bowler, belonging to bowling leagues in Fulton, NY. He also enjoyed fishing and gambling. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Coates Curtis of Sterling, whom he married on February 22, 1956; one daughter, Susan (Dennis) Lavere, Adams, NY; four sons: James Curtis, Martville, NY; Steven (Melody) Curtis, Nashville, TN; Larry (Tammy) Curtis, Martville, NY; and Donald (Deborah) Curtis, Red Creek, NY; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Linda Armstrong, Sandy Creek, NY; one brother, Donald Curtis, Palermo, NY; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two granddaughters, Jamie and Lori Curtis, on September 27, 1986. Calling hours at Becker Funeral Home, 6816 Church St., Red Creek, NY, on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial in South Cemetery, Red Creek.
