      Milford R. Tifft, 78, of 131 Salisbury St., died Sunday at
      Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, where he was admitted Friday.
      Mr. Tifft
      retired March 29, 1990, from Blount Lumber Co., Lacona, after 19 years' service.
      Previously, he had been a custodian at Sandy Creek Central School and from 1957
      to 1971 he worked at the former TC&G Corp., Lacona.
      He was a member of Sandy
      Creek United Methodist Church.
      Born Nov. 25, 1924, in the town of Ellisburg,
      son of Virgil H. and Muriel M. James Tifft, he graduated in 1942 from Sandy
      Creek Central.
      He married Anna M. Spedding, who died Sept. 24, 1997. He had
      previously been married to Madeline F. Roberts.
      Surviving are three
      stepchildren whom he raised, a stepson and his wife, David and Sarah Crossett,
      Mexico, a stepdaughter, whom he adopted, Patricia Tifft, Liverpool, and a
      stepdaughter and a stepson- in-law, Janice and Darryl Deming, Lacona; his
      companion, Irene Fuller, Sandy Creek, a granddaughter and two cousins.
      A
      grandson died before him.
      The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at
      Summerville Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Grow, pastor of Sandy Creek United
      Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn
      Cemetery.
