    • William W. Nurse, 86, of North Port, FL passed away April 16, 2015. William was born August 23, 1928 in Parish, NY to Hazel (Henderson) and William Nurse. He married the late Phyllis Lewis on April 20, 1951.William served in the US Army 1951-1953, saw overseas duty in Korea with graves registration in the 23rd Infantry, 2nd Division; He received his BS degree from the University of New York in 1959 and Master of Arts degree from George Washington University in 1962. He joined the Lions Club in 1967 and was a Life Member of the Mason Neck Lions Club in Mason Neck, VA and an Associate Member of the North Port Lions Club. William worked in a machine shop in the early 1950’s, making transmissions and differentials for auto and trucks, went to college and taught Architectural and engineering drafting for 24 years at Mount Vernon High School, having retired from Mount Vernon in 1983. He built many custom homes before moving to Florida. In addition to his wife, Phyllis, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandy Nurse; brother, Vernon Nurse and sister, Eileen Ackers. Survivors include his son, Adrian (wife, Cheryle) Nurse and brother, Jerome Nurse of Mexico, NY. Visitation was from 1-2 PM, Tuesday, April 21, at Farley Funeral Home, North Port Chapel with Funeral Service at 2 PM. A Graveside Service will be at 1 PM, Saturday, April 25 at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Virginia Beach, VA.
