- Newspaper Obituary - Tuesday, November 24, 1970 Watertown Daily Times - Mrs. John Smith Dies - Gouverneur - Mrs. Ruth H. Smith, 54, of 201 E. Main St., wife of John B. Smith and a Watertown native, died Monday at 11:50 p.m. at Gouverneur Edward John Noble Hospital. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Sprague Funeral Home, Rev. Stanley E. Brown, pastor, United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Adams. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening and Wednesday morning. Donations may be made to United Methodist Church or the Gouverneur Hospital. Surviving besides her husband, are three daughters, Mrs. Gary (Jane) Bulger, Gouverneur, Miss Phyllis M. Smith, Carmel, and Miss Joyce E. Smith, at home; a son, John B., Bangor, Maine; her mother, Mrs. Pearl Henderson, Watertown and two grandchildren. Born Dec. 19, 1915 in Watertown, a daughter of Ernest and Pearl Ives Henderson, she was graduated from Watertown High School in 1935. She was employed at Pine Camp from 1940-41 and alter worked for Hooker Optical Co. Watertown. She was married to John Buell Smith April 5, 1942, in Watertown. The couple has lived at Gouverneur since 1955. Mr. Smith is a car repairman for New York Central Railroad. Mrs. Smith was a member of the WSCS of United Methodist Church.
