      The funeral for George Loomis Jr., 69, of 470 Portage St., retired truck driver, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Hood, pastor of the Adams Center Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in North Watertown Cemetery in the spring.

      Mr. Loomis died at 8:55 p.m. Sunday at the House of the Good Samaritan, where he had been a patient five days.

      Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

      Surviving are his wife, Helen; a daughter, Mrs. Timothy (Sheila) Aubin, Black River; two grandsons; a sister, Doris Newton, Mannsville, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

      Two brothers, Joseph and Nathaniel Loomis, and six sisters, Mabel Hammatt, Sylvia Clarke, Myrtle Loomis, Anna Clukey, Margaret Dana, and Marion VanWaldick, died previously.

      He was born March 29, 1921, in Adams, a son of George Loomis Sr. and Maude Rogers Loomis. He attended Adams schools. After leaving school, he became an independent truck driver.

      Mr. Loomis served in the Army during World War II.

      He married Helen Brown of Watertown Aug. 21, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pa. The couple had resided in Watertown since 1970.

      Mr. Loomis was a self-employed truck driver for over 45 years. He retired in September due to failing health.
