    • Newspaper Obituary - Saturday, April 24, 1909 Wilkes Barre Record - George E. Smith Dead - George E. Smith, one of the old residents and respected citizens of Plymouth, passed to his reward last night at his home on Beade street, after a long and lingering illness of heart trouble. Deceased was 63 years of age and was employed as engineer at the Dodson colliery of the Plymouth Coal Co. for a long term of years. He is survived by his wife and four children, Ernest, Bertie and Charles, at home, and Mrs. David J. Lewis of Duncannon, Pa. Mr. Smith was one of the most esteemed residents of this place and his death takes away a kind and obliging neighbor and friend, an affectionate and indulgent father and a loving and devoted husband.

      Newspaper Obituary - Saturday, April 24, 1909 Wilkes-Barre Times-Leader (Wilkes-Barre, PA) - Geo. E. Smith Died of Heart Trouble. - Last evening at 9:30 occured the death of George E. Smith at his home on River Street. His death was due to heart trouble, from which he had suffered for a couple of years. Mr. Smith was employed at the Dodson No. 13 colliery as an engineer for many years, but prior to his illness he was engaged as a pump runner. During the time that the steamboats were operated upon the river here he was employed as engineer on the steamer Wilkes-Barre. He lived in this town for many years and was widely known and was a respected citizen. Deceased was 63 years of age and leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss. The children are Ernest, Bertie and Charles at home and Mrs. David J. Lewis of Duncannon, Pa. The funeral will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with services at the house. Rev. E. E. Clark will officiate. Interment will be made in Hanover Green cemetery.

      Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, April 28, 1909 Wilkes Barre Record - George E. Smith Buried - Yesterday afternoon occurred the funeral of George E. Smith of River street. Services were conducted at the house at 2 o'clock by Rev. E. E. Clark, of the Elm Congregational Church in the presence of a great gathering of sorrowing friends not a few of whom were from a distance. Two beautiful vocal selections appropriate to the occasion were rendered at the opening and closing of the services. Several floral offerings were laid on the casket, containing the remains. The pall bearers were Henry Lewis, Samuel Fudge, Ed. Stevens, Harry Epplett, John Muchler and William Buckingham.
