    • Newspaper Obituary - April 24, 1969 Pulaski Democrat - Mary E. Smith Rites Today - Mary E. Smith, 68, of Orwell died April 21 in Good Samaritan Hospital, Watertown where she had been a patient for eight days. She was born August 15, 1900 at Wanamie, PA, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Rule Crouse. She attended school in Pennsylvania, and was married on January 4, 1926 to Charles M. Smith. They resided in the Lacona-Orwell area all their married life, farming for a living. Mr. Smith died in 1957. Mrs. Smith was a member of Sandy Creek Wesleyan Church. Surviving are three sons, Charles M. Smith and Herbert H. Smith of Orwell and Robert L. Smith of Boylston; a daughter Mrs. William (Ethel) Otis of Adams Center; two stepdaughters, Mrs. George (Rose) Stewart of Adams and Mrs. Cyrus (Kathleen) Stewart of Sandy Creek; 31 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Ida McCarthy of Edison, NJ, Mrs. Florence Briggs of Nanticoke, PA, and Mrs. Lizann Cunningham of Uniontown, PA; five brothers, Charles Crouse, Wapwallopen, PA, Alex Crouse of Reading, PA. Thomas Crouse of Nuagola, PA, Harry Crouse, Nanticoke and George Crouse of Sheatown, PA. There are also several nieces and nephews. Another daughter Mary Look died in 1965. Funeral services are being held today (Thursday) at 2pm. at the Sandy Creek Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Merlin Loomis officiating, assisted by the Rev. Wallace Taylor. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Foster Funeral Home.
