- Newspaper Obituary - March 10, 1958 Syracuse Herald Journal - Father of 9, Jobless, Ends Life, Henderson Harbor - Richard John Fargo, 44, unemployed at the Watertown plant of the New York Air Brake Company since last October, ended his life in the kitchen of his home with a shotgun Saturday night at 8:45 while members of his family were in nearby rooms. The Fargo home is on the military road, a quarter of a mile west of Aspinwall Corners. Members of the family said that Fargo had been despondent. An inquest is pending but no autopsy will be held. Mr. Fargo was born on Wolfe Island, Ont., son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Fargo, now of East Hills apartments, Watertown. When he was four years of age he came to Dry Hill with his parents. For the past 26 years he had lived in the Henderson Harbor area. For seven years he worked at the New York Air Brake and prior to that time was employed on the Gaylore Montaague Farm. He and his wife, the former Erma Greene of Henderson were married in 1933. He is survived by his wife, his parents, nine children, Mrs. Earl Lennox, 19, of Sodus, Richard J., 18, with the Air Force of Duluth, Minn; Louis E., 17, Joan Alaine, 15; Raymond B., 11; Jane Delores, nine; Mary Anna, seven; Dale Marie, six; and Donald James, 4. He also leaves five sisters, Mrs. Charles Hammond of Adams Center, Mrs. Edward Arkles of Watertown, Miss Mary Fargo of Washington, Mrs. Kenneth Hall of Canton and Mrs. Donald Morehouse of Watertown and Lawrence of San Francisco, Calif. The funeral will be tomorrow at 9 a.m. from St. Andrews Church at Sackets Harbor with burial at Roberts Corners in the spring.
