CANFIELD - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Church, preceded by a 9:30 a.m. prayer service at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home, for Andrew "Jack" Douglass, 75, who passed away Friday morning June 11, 2010, at Assumption Village Nursing Home.
He was born July 13, 1934, in Youngstown, the son of Andrew J. and Anna DeGaetano Douglass.
He graduated in 1952 from South High School.
He worked 17 years on the Erie Lackawanna Railroad having made the last run as passenger conductor on the Phoebe Snow.
He then went to work for Automatic Sprinkler Fire Protection, where he moved and resided in Syracuse, N.Y., for 35 years. In 1985, he started his own business, Salt City Sprinkler, and retired in 2000.
He moved back to Canfield in 2006, after 35 years in Syracuse.
He served 11 years in the Naval Reserve.
His hobbies consisted of playing golf, woodworking, and going to Florida in the winter with his motor home.
He married Amelia Matiscik in October of 1955. They would have been married 55 years this October.
He is survived by his wife, Amelia Matiscik Douglass; four sons, Andrew (Sue) Douglass of Pulaski, N.Y., Michael (Laurie) Douglass of Springfield, Va., Mark (Leanne) Douglass of Canfield, and Charles (Kathy) Douglass of Cheyenne, Wy. He loved all eight of his grandchildren, Celia, Ian, Mark Jr., Nicole, Kenzie, Kelle, Devin and Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Anna; and a daughter, Diane Douglass, who passed away May 11, 2010.
Friends may call on Tuesday June 15, 2010, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
