Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, April 24, 1918 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Richland - The funeral service of Newton Taplin who was fatally injured a week ago Sunday night while in company with Glen Marsh, Charles Briggs, Miss Coon, Miss Florence Widrig and Miss Alta Briggs, the latter two being killed instantly, took place this afternoon at 1 o'clock at the M. E, church, Rev. Walter Clement officiating. Newton, who was 18 years old, put up a brave fight for just one week, death resulting from concussion of the brain. Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Taplin, he has three brothers, Wyon, who is in France with Pershing's army and Claud who is in the Panama Canal zone and Elmon at home. The families who were so hard hit by this sad accident have the sympathy of the whole community.
Newspaper Article - Monday, April 29, 1918 Oswego Daily Palladium - Oswego, New York - Coroner Hollis Files Report - The reports of Coroner Hollis in the cases of Alta Briggs, Florence Widrig and Newton Taplin, who met death while walking on the New York Central tracks near Richland, two weeks ago, was filed in the County Clerk's office today. The report simply says that - death was caused by the injuries received.
