- Newspaper Obituary - Friday, August 6, 2010 Salmon River News - Pulaski, New York - Eugene R. Murray, 78, passed away on July 22 at home, under hospice care. A native of Pulaski, Gene was born October 18, 1931 to Roy and Irene Burns Murray. He graduated from Pulaski Academy and Central School in 1951 and worked for Douglaston Manor Farm for a year before entering the Coast Guard in 1952. On September 36, 2959 he married Mildred A. Bejean. Gene served 22 years in the Coast Guard, retiring in 1974. For the next 10 years he was a maintenance superintendent at APW School District. He was a member of Park United Methodist Church, Pulaski, Royal Arch Mason 279 and a 50-year member of Pulaski Masonic Lodge 415 F&AM. Gene was a quiet man, hard working and loyal. When he was younger Gene was "Mr. Fixit" especially with automobiles. Ile was also an accomplished wood worker and carpenter. Before his illness Gene enjoyed fishing the small streams of the area and in the winter turned to cross-country skiing or snow shoeing. First and foremost, Gene's greatest enjoyment remained spending time with his family. Surviving: Millie, his wife of 50 years; three daughters, JoAnne (Anthony) Whaley of Queensbury, Cynthia (Kevin) Zimmer of Chittenango, and Karyn (Michael) Howe of Manlius; two brothers, Elwin of Houghton Lake, Michigan, and Edward of Mexico, and seven grandchildren, Dalton and Drue Whaley, Kyle and Nicole Zimmer and Jessica, Meghan and Michael Howe II. Eugene is predeceased by one brother Lawrence Murray. Private funeral services were Monday, July 26 at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski with a burial with full honors in South Richland Cemetery, Fernwood.
