    • Newspaper Obituary - Saturday, July 22, 2006 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - Ward A. Sampson, 78, of 3767 County Route 87, died Thursday evening at his home after a long illness. Mr. Sampson worked at the Dairylea cheese plant in Adams for 16 years. He was a self-employed carpenter on various construction projects, retiring in 1989. Born July 23, 1927, in Pierrepont Manor, son of Willis and Doris Steele Sampson, he attended Mannsville-Manor Central School and served in the Army from 1945 to 1946. A marriage to Ruth Adams ended in divorce. He married Eva Stewart on Dec. 7, 1956, in Frederick, Md. The couple lived in the South Jefferson area following their marriage. He enjoyed gardening and doing woodworking projects in his shop. Surviving besides his wife are three daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Earl Davidson, Mexico, Linda and Marty Braley, Pulaski, and Debbie and Tim Sprague, Mannsville; two sons, Michael, Rome, and Ward Jr., Florida; two stepdaughters, Brenda Mullin, Mannsville, and Elizabeth Berghorn, South Rutland; two sisters, Evelyn Fry, Florida, and Ruby Sampson, Tennessee, 15 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Three sisters, Grace Hoffman, Dorys "Kay"" Olley and Martha Sampson, a brother, Bernard W., and a stepson, Ernest Fone Jr., died before him. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville. Burial will be in Ellisburg Cemetery. Calling hours will be noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
