Newspaper Obituary - May 10, 1916 Jefferson County Journal - Adams, New York - Sudden Death of Edwin D. Hemans - Pulaski, May 1 - Edwin D. Hemans, a native of Adams, Jefferson county, and one of the oldest and best known residents of the town of Richland, died suddenly at his home at Port Ontario at 6:30 Sunday evening. At about 4 p.m. Mr. Hemans was stricken with a severe attack of acute indigestion and Dr. George W. Betts of this village was called. Mr. Hemans was about during the day calling on friends and seemed to be in his usual good health. He had not complained of feeling unwell until 4 o'clock. Coroner Leroy F. Hollis of Lacona was called. Edwin D. Hemans was born in the village of Adams, December 9, 1837, and came to the town of Richland when a mere boy, and for many years was engaged in farming at Port Ontario. He was well known among the wholesale market men of Syracuse, having during the past 30 years or more supplied them with fish and poultry, and also a wide circle of friends among the summer guests who came to Port Ontario and Selkirk Beach each season, both being nearby resorts. Surviving besides the widow is a daughter, Mrs. Frederick J. Harrington of Port Ontario.
