Sampson Dies at 70 - ADAMS - Willis Sampson, 70, died in Hillcrest nursing home at 2:45 this morning where he had been a patient three and a half years. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Piddock funeral home. Burial will be in Orwell cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Surviving are two sons, Bernard W., Mount-Juliet, Tenn., and Ward A., Ellisburg; four daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Evelyn) Fry, Tampa, Fla., Mrs. Ranceford (Ruby) Ward, Mount Juliet, Tenn.; Mrs. Carl (Grace) Larmon, Alexander, and Mrs. David (Kaye) Olley, West Martinsburg; two brothers, Andrew, Chateaugay, and Frank, Altmar; two sisters, Mrs. Howard (Nettie) Smith, Westernville, and Mrs. Vernon (Bessie) Peck, sr., Copenhagen, 27 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A daughter, Martha, died in 1936 at 3. Mr. Sampson was born Aug. 5, 1896, near Orwell, a son of Andrew and Jennie Sampson. He married Miss Doris Steele of Pierrepont Manor, Nov. 26, 1918. The couple always lived in southern Jefferson county, operating farms. She died July 23, 1953. He retired in 1947 due to ill health.
