Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, August 17, 1950 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Orwell Woman Is Killed in Crash Mrs. Carrie Reese Brownell, 77, of Orwell was killed about 2:45 Monday, August 14, 1950 in a head-on auto collision which occurred on the Altmar-Howardville county road when cars driven by Lee Howard, 72 of Orwell and Lee Musick, 17 of Chaffee came together. Four others were injured in the accident, two requiring hospitalization. They were Miss Susie Little, retired school teacher, concussion of the brain and lacerated left ankle, and Lee Howard of Orwell, who were taken to Oswego hospital; and Lee Musick, driver of the other car, and Richard Graham of Franklinville, a passenger, who sustained multiple cuts and bruises. Trooper Robert G. Karle of Pulaski substation, who investigated reported that apparently the Musick car was northbound on the narrow county road when it and the Howard vehicle collided. Both cars were damaged badly. Mrs. Brownell, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Reese, had resided in Orwell most of her life. She was the widow of Frank Brownell, who died in 1934. Surviving are two sons, Lt. Col. George R. Brownell of Nutley, New Jersey and Zachary T. Brownell of Orwell; a sister Mrs. Louis Nichols of Fernwood, and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Foster funeral home in Pulaski Wednesday afternoon and burial was at Orwell.
