- Online Obituary - Virginia M. Smith - June 19 1937 - December 26 2020 - Virginia “Ginny” Mead Smith of Orwell, NY passed away on Saturday December 26, 2020 after a year-long battle with cancer. Ginny was born June 19, 1937 to E. Walter and Charlotte Mead in Boylston, NY. She graduated from Sandy Creek High School in 1954 and earned her LPN from SUNY Morrisville in 1955. Ginny had a number of career occupations including working professionally as a nurse and caregiver, and later, in a side business as a wallpaper hanger and a cake decorator. However, she always considered homemaking and raising her family as her primary jobs. She was active throughout her life at the Vorea Community Church, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, acting as Sunday School Superintendent and helping with cleaning work bees and other church projects. She acted as a Girl Scout leader and participated in the Good Neighbors Society, sewing quilts for families in need. She is survived by her husband Herbert and three children, James (Lori) Smith of Macedon, NY, Shelley Blodgett of Sandy Creek, NY, Vicki (Lee) Teachout of Orwell, NY, two sisters Eleanor (John) LaCelle of Orwell, NY and Wanda Bishop of Poughkeepsie, NY, along with seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Ginny is predeceased by her parents, sister Freida Janacek and brother-in-law Gregory Bishop. Calling hours will be Saturday January 2, 2021 from 11:30-1:00 at the Vorea Community Church. A memorial service will follow at 1:00. Covid safety guidelines will be observed, with mask wearing and social distancing.
